Brava: Emigrant Mariana Fernandes donates backpacks to students at the Nossa Senhora do Monte School.
City of Nova Sintra, December 17, 2025 (Bravanews) - Cape Verdean emigrant Mariana Fernandes, residing in the city of Brockton, in the United States of America, performed a gesture of solidarity during her recent visit to Brava Island, by distributing backpacks to some students of the Nossa Senhora do Monte School.
In a conversation with Bravanews, Mariana Fernandes explained that the initiative has a very special meaning, since it was at that school that she completed her own schooling. According to her, firsthand knowledge of the difficulties faced by many students was crucial to the realization of the project.
“I studied at this school and I know well the difficulties that many students go through. That's why I understood that I could make a small contribution, offering backpacks so that they can better preserve their school supplies,” he said.
The initiative was received with satisfaction by the educational community, which highlighted the positive impact of the gesture, not only for the material support, but also for the example of solidarity and connection to her homeland demonstrated by the emigrant.
Mariana Fernandes' action reinforces the important role of the Brava diaspora in supporting local communities, showing that, even from a distance, many emigrants remain attentive to the island's needs and available to contribute to the well-being of new generations.
